Saints Training Camp 2014 Position Battle: Tight End

The New Orleans Saints action packed off season has come to a close as the Saints head off to training camp. And while the team will be enjoying the beautiful 60 degree weather at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, no doubt the competition for roster spots is sure to heat up.   The Saints coaching staff has been quoted for saying that every spot on the roster is up for grabs when training camp begins.

“Every spot on the roster is up for grabs.”

Realistically, that isn’t the case. When the first practice of training camp begins on Friday 90 players will be competing for 53 spots. Hows that for steep competition?   While some positions like wide receiver are up for grabs for a few starting spots, others like quarterback, of course, only have backup positions available. It’s always fun to watch it come together and there are always a few surprises. In this post lets take a look at the Saints Tight Ends Total roster spots available:

WithGraham back the number of potential tight spots open has cut to one. Obviously its unrealistic to thing someone will be beating out Graham or Watson, that leaves second year Hill, a likely choice for the potential spot. You may remember Hill started out mostly on special teams, but was given extensive playing time on offensive as the season progressed. In total Hill played in 14 games last season, including three starts, finishing with six receptions for a total of 44 yards and one touchdown. But then there are rookies Jacobs and Hamm, who showed a great deal of promise in the OTAs. Both rookies are practice squad eligible and that could end up the more likely destination. If either player turns in a better performance than Hill, it’s not out of the question to assume they could win the spot. Hey, anything could happen at camp right? Keep ya posted.
