Saints QB Brees And His Wife Take A “Walk-On’s” Role

It’s been a long standing joke when New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was not doing well this past season that fans said he needed some Jimmy John’s to set him right.

Jimmy John’s of course being the sub sandwich franchise that boasts fresh baked bread and fresh ingredients similar to other sandwich shops but JJ’s has a twist where they actually do delivery similar to pizza shops.

Brees had a love for the sandwich franchise so much that he invested and opened up several locations in the New Orleans area and is constantly raving(naturally) about how great they are.

Well get ready to see Brees tweet about another franchise because according to WAFB Channel 9 in Baton Rouge, he taking on another one…Walk On’s Bistreaux and Bar.

The report says that Brees and his wife Brittany are now co-owners of Walk-On’s Enterprise that also lists Happy’s Irish Pub and Walk-On’s Catering as well.

If you haven’t been to a Walk-On’s before it’s along the same line as a Chili’s or Applebee’s but combined with a Buffalo Wild Wings as far as a sports theme.

Waitress are usually dressed in cheerleader-style uniforms to convey that theme and there is a backstory to the name as well.

According to their website, Walk-On’s was founded by Jack Warner and Brandon Landry who were…wait for it…”walk on’s” for the LSU basketball team in the late 1990’s.

The two conceived the idea in 2001 and after many attempts at trying to secure a loan, they succeeded and built the franchise.

Walk-On’s in Baton Rouge is always a busy hub for LSU football games since there is the connection from Warner and Landry.

Their site also say that they were named #1 Sports Bar in America by ESPN in 2012.

I’ve only been to Walk-On’s one time but the experience was pretty good and the burgers don’t disappoint….and you can’t go wrong with waffle fries.

Oh and I’ll just go ahead and put this out there for dessert…Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding.  Like the menu says, “Try it, just trust us”.

To foreshadow the announcement, Brees recently posted on his Twitter account this about Walk-On’s,

WAFB reporter Travis Connelley gave these statements from Brees and his wife regarding their becoming co-owners of the popular chain:

"Drew Brees:  “We’re not just passive investors. Brittany and I are committed to working closely with Brandon(Landry) and the team to do whatever we can to contribute to Walk-On’s success going forward.  I think we’re going to have a lot of fun, and celebrate a lot of wins, in the years ahead.”Brittany Brees:  “Drew and I consider New Orleans to be our home now, so we love the idea of investing in a Louisiana-based brand that is so well respected in its industry.  We’ve done our homework and we truly believe Walk-On’s has the potential to become a successful national chain.”"

While fans may give Brees a good jeering over his many social media posts concerning his endorsements, you can’t knock his business savvy mind.

The future Hall of Famer knows he’s just like any player in the NFL who has a finite time in the league and can’t depend on a check from football for forever.

Brees has always been big on preparation on not just the football field but outside of it as well.

When the day comes for #9 to step down and hand the reins to another, rumored currently to be newly drafted quarterback Garrett Grayson, then he can do so with knowing he and his family are taken care of in the future….
