Eye on the Tigers: MNF Edition
Tonight’s Monday Night Football featured the Indianapolis Colts traveling to take on the San Diego Chargers in an intriguing AFC contest. Two former Tigers participated in this game, Ricky Jean-Francois and Kelvin Sheppard. Others among the two NFL rosters include LaRon Landry and Brandon Taylor, both of whom were inactive.
Neither Kelvin nor Ricky could turn the tide for the Colts who took their second loss on the year 19-9. Both Sheppard and Jean-Francois turned in solid games, the Colts as a team just couldn’t get the Chargers off the field. Sheppard turned in four tackles including one sack for a nine yard loss at the 5:46 mark in the fourth quarter. At the time it was a seven point game, and a crucial stop on second down to force the long 3rd and 19. San Diego punted after a ten yard gain on 3rd down, but the subsequent drive from the Colts went three and out as they were unable to take advantage of the stiff defense.
Jean-Francois added another three tackles in the loss, but his presence dissipated after the first half.
The Colts gave up 147 yards on the ground, 102 of which brought running back Ryan Mathews his first 100 yard game of the season. The Chargers game plan was clearly focused on keeping the ball away from Andrew Luck and the Colts offense as they held the ball for a total of 38:31. The Chargers also showed incredible balance running 37 running plays, and attempting 33 passes.
Several Tigers will take the field in week seven’s featured games between the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night, and Minnesota Vikings vs New York Giants on Monday. Look for Big Easy Believer’s review of those games to keep your Eye on the Tigers!
