Like many others I think Scherff’s size and skillset will fit better in the inside of the offensive line at the NFL level. With this in mind he becomes a great pick for San Diego here at 17. They are getting one the best players available and are filling a need at the same time. Even though Marcus Peters is still on the board, you can’t pass up the value that Scherff has here.. OL. Iowa. BRANDON SCHERFF. 17

18. Andy Reid is a good coach and it will take a good coach to get Dorial Green-Beckham to reach his potential. But, this is a player who has top 10 talent who has allowed character issues to hurt his stock. Kansas City is a place where things could come together for him.. WR. Missouri. DORIAL GREEN-BECKHAM

19. Parker at 12 might have been a reach, but if that was a reach, then Brown at 19 is a gift. Brown is the time of DL who can line up wherever you ask and perform. He should be a starter from day 1 and help Cleveland stop the run and even pitch in against the pass.. DL. Texas. MALCOM BROWN

Alabama. LANDON COLLINS. 20. Bucky Brooks of NFL.com recently released and article explaining why he though the Eagles were a playoff team as their roster sat right now. I don’t think they are there yet. For starters, they have to solidify their defense. Collins is more of a close to the line of scrimmage safety, but having someone who can roam and protect benefits an Eagles team that must face recently resurgent run games and short passes.. SS

MARCUS PETERS. 21. Corner is arguably the top need for the Bengals. Drafting Peters allows them to get faster, younger and build depth at what is becoming the most important position on the defensive side of the football.. CB. Washington

22. The Steelers are in the poor position of watching several players they need get drafted before the 22nd pick rolls around. One position they can improve here is the down in the trenches by selecting Armstead. Arik solidifies the run defense and has the power and bull rush technique to provide help in the pass rush at times.. DL. Oregon. ARIK ARMSTEAD

EDDIE GOLDMAN. 23. The Lions quickly filled the void created by the Suh departure by signing Haloti Ngata, but the All Pro is not exactly young. The team could look to partner him with a young defensive lineman like Goldman to groom as an eventual successor and as a player to rotate in to keep Ngata fresh.. DL. Florida St.

Last year I had the Cardinals picking a QB at roughly this exact same spot (Bortles in that mock) and now I bet they wish they had.  The team had a beautiful Cinderella story like run into the playoffs before faltering due to poor QB play. It seems like the team is going to trust in Palmer, and if that is the case they need to bolster their defense in order to compete while their aging vets are still able to contribute. The Cardinals take a page out of the Giants draft book and decide to reunite LSU alums and draft Collins. With the Seahawks obtaining Jimmy Graham, the Cardinals secondary is going to need all the help it can get.. CB. LSU. JALEN COLLINS. 24

Florida. D.J. HUMPHRIES. 25. The Panthers won the woeful NFL south and made it to the second round of the playoffs. No matter how it happened, that is an achievement the team can hang their helmets on. This season looks like that same feat will be a tougher road to hoe and they’ll need to start protecting Cam if they intend to three-pete as division champions. Humphies from Florida gives the team a young lineman to help grow and protect the team’s most valuable asset.. OL

26. The Ravens traded one of theri star players but were able to bring in some draft picks to compensate for the lost. Still, losing a player of that caliber creates a hole. Phillips is a behemoth inside who will clog up caps and eat plenty of space. He struggles to get a push against the pass and it is unlikely he’ll be used as a three down lineman, but the Ravens have had consistent success grooming players and drawing out their full potential.. DL. Oklahoma. JORDAN PHILLIPS

27. Darren McFadden will not replace Murray. While Gordon might not do that in his first year, the potential is there. Dallas has the offensive line and surrounding playmakers to set Gordon up for success. He might be able to plug and play quicker than expected given the circumstances.. RB. Wisconsin. MELVIN GORDON

28. The Broncos probably want a strong NT here or another defender, but getting another weapon for what could be Payton’s last year is important as well. Given recent departures during free agency Strong might look like a tempting option towards the end of the 1st on draft day.. WR. Arizona St.. JALEN STRONG

29. What do all great QBs have and good QBs lack? A great offensive line. That is the difference between high level dominance and just regular strong play. Indianapolis is getting close to being that dominant team. Flowers helps them get there.. OL. Miami. ERECK FLOWERS

30. There is about to be a run on “any remaining LBs” in round 2 as teams like San Francisco are in dire need. This could cause the end of round 1 to force some 2nd round guys to go out early. Perryman is a blue collar inside LB who will allow Clay to return to his outside role. Though he isn’t as strong against the pass as other ILBs, what Perryman does have is a nose for the ball and a grit that any head coach would love to have in a LB. McKinney is a good LB, but Perryman just might “fit” with what Green Bay has.. LB. Miami. DENZEL PERRYMAN

BENARDRICK MCKINNEY. 31. The Saint shock everyone by drafting two players into the LB core in round one. Most expect the team to target offense and replace the lost reps of Jimmy Graham, but they were adamant that defense comes first. In this case we’re taking it literally. They still have 2nd and 3rd round picks to address offensive needs. Right now the team fortifies the 2nd level. This is something Who Dats haven’t had in many years.. LB. Mississippi St.

C. Florida St.. CAMERON ERVING. 32. As usual the Patriots find themselves at the bottom of the 1st round, but as expected the player that fits them best is sitting right there waiting for them. Mike Mayock describes Erving as a “starting Pro Bowl quality center” from day 1. High praise for a rookie. How do you improve as a Superbowl champion? Make sure you master the fundamentals. Having a strong offensive line does just that.
