Saints Establishing Goals For 2015 Early On

4. The Chain…
Yes there are only three numbered goals posted on the lockers so maybe you didn’t notice the subliminal message at the bottom…the chain.
Leadership, or lack thereof, was an issue with the Saints in 2014 with basically all the vocal leaders like linebacker Jonathan Vilma, defensive end Will Smith, and cornerback Jabari Greer gone.
You could see it in the team with not only their play on the field but their body language. They weren’t the team that we knew in 2009 by any means.
Gone was the confidence even when they were down, the Saints looked like whipped dogs and sulked on the sidelines.
I can remember being in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome during the 2014 season and instead of being full of electricity, it was full of seats that slowly began to empty.
None of the players appeared to be moving in the same direction and none of them seemed to have answers…or better yet didn’t want to see the problem.
But the chain represents the ultimate goal of the team heading into 2015, which is that they need to stay together and stand together no matter the adversity ahead.
Also the chain represents that there will be no weak or broken links on the team from anyone and if you are then you’re on the way out…staff included.
I have to applaude Payton for keeping the goals short and sweet but with a bigger, hidden meaning that hopefully will be seen.
For the Saints to be successful in 2015 and beyond, they need to check them all off now instead of waiting until their chain is completely broken……
