Possible Candidates for Next Pelicans Coach
By Mike Delayo
John Calipari
John Calipari, unlike Atkinson, is no stranger to being a head coach.
His brief stint with the New Jersey Nets in the late ’90s was nothing to write home about. It is his time at UMass, Memphis and especially Kentucky that really speaks volumes.
Calipari has made quite the name for himself over the last decade. The amount of talent he has brought into his college programs year in and year out has been unprecedented.
However, the success of these same athletes sometimes does not get the credit it’s due.
Who knows how successful players like Anthony Davis, Demarcus Cousins, Eric Bledsoe, Tyreke Evans and Derrick Rose would be if they had not played under Calipari?
Reuniting Calipari with Davis and Evans would be the ideal opportunity for the famed NCAA coach to prove he has what it takes to succeed in the NBA. Quite frankly, I think he would be welcomed with open arms by both the organization and the roster.
However unlike the previous candidates, Calipari may be content with where he is right now. Kentucky is fresh off of another championship run, and their dominance shows no sign of going away.
If he does decide to join forces with some of his alumni in New Orleans, who knows what possibilities await that young Pelicans team.
