Another Morgan Is Trying To Make The Saints At WR

Yes the New Orleans Saints have one Morgan, Joe, at wide receiver but there is another that’s trying to break onto the roster as well during rookie mini-camp this weekend…Josh Morgan.

Morgan, 6’0″, 219 lbs., is a former 2008 6th round pick of the San Francisco 49ers selected out of Virginia Tech.

During his career as a Hokie, Morgan had 122 receptions for 1,817 yards and 16 touchdowns and set a school bowl game record for his 126 receiving yards in the 2005 Sugar Bowl against Auburn.

In his first year with the 49ers, Morgan made quite an impression and although he only played in 12 games due to injury, he finished the 2008 season with 20 receptions for 319 yards and 3 touchdowns.

He would continue to have success with the 49ers and amass 111 receptions for 1,445 yards and 6 touchdowns in the following three seasons.

His 2011 season was cut short however due to breaking a bone in his right leg and was placed on injured reserve.

Morgan would sign with the Washington Redskins in 2012 and be the starting wide receiver opposite Pierre Garcon.

His time with the Redskins wouldn’t yield the same production as with the 49ers and he only recorded 68 receptions for 714 yards and 2 touchdowns.

But Morgan would be remembered for a bizarre play in his first year with the team during a week 13 game vs. the New York Giants.

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was attempting to convert a 2nd & 2 play on the Giants 28 yard line and ended up rushing for 12 yards.

But after converting the first down, Griffin was hit by Giants safety Stevie Brown causing a fumble and the ball popped into the air.

Morgan was just a few yards from the play and the ball went right to him and he ran into the end zone for a touchdown.

His latest stop would be with the Chicago Bears for the 2014 season and Morgan would only play a minor role with 10 receptions for 70 yards and 1 touchdown.

While the Saints have depth at the wide receiver position, it’s been noted numerous times that they lack experienced depth which Morgan could bring if he makes it at mini-camp.

Veteran wide receiver Marques Colston is the only proven player followed by Brandin Cooks and Joe Morgan who’s on a shaky second chance…..
