I know there’s rough a 5% chance this could happen, but it wouldn’t be out of the question. The Thunder, Magic, and Pelicans have all found their Head Coaches already, and Thibs is still unemployed.
Most higher-ups around the league have speculated that Thibs might take a year off, and come back to coaching in 2016. The problem is that Thibs is unmarried, has no hobbies, and loves basketball more than anyone could imagine.
In this scenario, Thibs decides he still wants to be around the game, but he also wants to take a year with less responsibility. Alvin calls him up, lets him know he will have a significant say in the Pelicans defense, and Thibs decides to spend a year coaching Anthony Davis in a low risk setting.
The odds are very low, but stranger things have happened.
These are just a few of the many candidates the Pelicans will be able to choose form. Alvin Gentry is highly respected and admired throughout the league, so it won’t be hard of him to lure a coordinator to New Orleans.
One smart defensive mind is literally all we need to make this offseason a home-run, and today’s league is crawling with them……
