Football season is still a long ways off, but that isn’t stopping LSU Tigers from making a little news.

With NFL OTA’s underway around the league and training camps just around the corner, teams that have LSU rookies on their squads have plenty to report on.

  • Dallas Cowboys rookie La’el Collins wasn’t the first LSU Tiger drafted but he is making some waves in Dallas, and not all of them on the field.

The Dallas Morning News had a write up about Collins’ experience dining at Jerry Jones house in Dallas. Collins is a fan of Jerry Jones’ preferred level of service.

The Dallas Morning News is paying attention to where Collins lines up during OTA’s.

NBC’s ProFootballTalk website is taking note of the way the Cowboys are trying Collins out at both the Right Tackle and Left Guard positions.

This makes sense as these are the two weakest links on the Cowboys line, something we took note of here at the Big Easy Believer when Collins originally signed with Dallas.

Jalen Collins is recovering from foot surgery so he isn’t getting any reps from the Falcons yet, but Vikings 3rd round pick Danielle Hunter is opening some eyes in Minnesota.

ESPN Vikings reporter Ben Goessling has him tagged as one of the top rookies to watch in the league in this video, and the Vikings team website has already noted Hunter’s playmaking ability showing up in their OTA practices.

Those of you who follow the Big Easy Believer know that I thought Kwon Alexander landed in an ideal situation when he was drafted by Tampa Bay.

After all Tampa Bay Head Coach Lovie SMith made his bones coaching fast athletic LB’s like Derrick Brooks, Hardy Nickerson, Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs. Who else could bring Kwon Alexander to the next level?

Other people following the Bucs are starting to take notice. JoeBucsFan.com reported that, “Alexander’s elite athleticism is shining along with how quickly he’s grasping the defense.

The adjective given to Joe was “outstanding.” That is outstanding news for LSU fans.

Scott Reynolds from PewterReport.com is raving about Alexander’s ability so far, saying, “The early impression from the Bucs coaches is that Alexander could be the fastest and most athletic linebacker on Tampa Bay’s roster.

And considering that Pro Bowl alternate linebacker Lavonte David is on the roster, that’s truly saying something.” That really is saying something, I guess this means Kwon won’t have to fall back on his other career option as a personal chef!

    More from Editorials

The Kenny Hilliard front is fairly quiet so far, something that should turn around when Hard Knocks starts. There isn’t much news from Terrence Magee yet either, although I did find this nice pic of him in Ravens Purple gear during my search. Ronald Martin is recovering from an unspecified injury at Seahawks practices.

I haven’t seen anything so far on Elliot Porter, Connor Neighbors and Jermauria rasco, as soon as I do I will post it.

So far the news for LSU players is good, La’el Collins is clearly in a good situation, Danielle Hunter and Kwon Alexander are wowing their new teams with their world class athleticism and the Falcons are anticipating their first look at Jalen Collins.

All in all it looks like another group of LSU athletes is preparing to take the NFL world by the horns and give it a good shake……
