Will It Be “Hype” Or Hope For the Saints In 2015?
Quarterback Drew Brees Is Washed Up/In Decline
Verdict: Hype
Let’s go ahead and get this out of the way. Forget elephant in the room…this is a long dead horse.
The national media got this going before the draft started and commented on the issue about the decline of Brees and that the Saints were looking to move on from their franchise gunslinger.
This storyline really got traction when the team secretly worked out and then eventually selected Colorado State quarterback Garrett Grayson in the third round of this years draft.
Yes, eventually the Saints will have to deal with life after Brees but now is not that time and I really don’t see Grayson nipping at his heels.
Since 2009, ProFootballFocus.com has Brees listed in the top four quarterbacks in the NFL coming in at #2 for 2013 and 2014.
Yeah, I saw the “NFL Top 100” that has him at #30…and class favorites in school were THE class favorites and not a popularity contest right?
Understandably he didn’t have what’s considered his best season in 2014 which is more due to his overzealous desire to make a play happen which in turn lead to 17 interceptions.
I was in that band of people uttering the words, “Just throw it away” for much of last season that quickly transitioned into unpleasantries immediately after the forced throw from Brees.
But for a quarterback who narrowly missed throwing for a fourth consecutive 5,000 yard season (missed it by 48 yards last year) and has broken more records than most can remember being called “in decline”? Ummmmm …. I don’t think so.
