Will It Be “Hype” Or Hope For the Saints In 2015?
The Saints Defense Will Make a Comeback
Verdict: Hope
After finishing almost dead last in 2014, the Saints only have one way to go…okay they can drop a spot but you get my drift.
It blew the minds of everyone, players included, when the defense that was so buzz worthy in 2013 took a huge nosedive in 2014.
Reports surfaced that lack of leadership as well as lack of cohesion lead to the meltdown that left fans speechless and bewildered.
One story that was finally unearthed by NOLA.com’s Jeff Duncan was that former defensive tackle Brandon Deadrick was involved in what was said to be an “ugly” fight with teammates in the locker room.
Gone were the voices of linebacker Jonathan Vilma, cornerback Jabari Greer, along with safeties Roman Harper and Malcolm Jenkins.
Make fun of Roman “Hands of Stone” Harper and Malcolm “Misses Tackles” Jenkins if you want but they could keep the troops in line.
The Saints added cornerback Brandon Browner in free agency who is already making his voice heard on and off the field along with helping form a tight core group in the beleaguered secondary.
The Saints also drafted heavy on defense adding what they call “character players” in linebackers Stephone Anthony, Hau’oli Kikaha, and cornerback P.J. Williams.
Add some other veteran free agent signings like the recent one of defensive tackle Kevin Williams and the team can very well be back on top again.
But forget being ranked as a #3, #2, or even #1 defense, they just need to be what everyone saw in 2009 which was not mainly dominant but more opportunistic.
