Will It Be “Hype” Or Hope For the Saints In 2015?

The Saints Are Going To Be Lost Without Jimmy Graham

Verdict:  Hype

I’ll admit that not having Graham as a target in the redzone will be something head coach Sean Payton and offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael will miss.

The 6-7, 270 lb. tight end was usually the money shot for Drew Brees in that range but I’m sure that both Payton and Carmichael will come up with something along the lines of “Spider 2 Y Banana ” or whatever cool sounding play ESPN’s Jon Gruden will say.

As it has been noted before, the Saints won games and even won a Super Bowl prior to Graham’s arrival in New Orleans.

To be honest when Graham was traded to the Seattle Seahawks back in March of this year I was shocked but not in the “Oh no what are the Saints gonna do now” type of way.

No it was because of after all the drama just a year before that of haggling over whether he was a receiver or tight end that eventually lead to his 4-year, $40 million dollar contract the Saints were able to trade him.

The team had never been this aggressive and it was quite refreshing to see them pull the trigger when the opportunity presented itself.

Yes Graham was gone but in return they received center Max Unger(a position they badly needed filled) and a first round pick in the draft whom they used to select linebacker Stephone Anthony.

Unger will help make everyone on the offensive line better and Anthony is already making huge strides leading up to training camp as rookie who can make an impact right out of the gate.

With that being said I still think, and have mentioned it multiple times, that the Saints need to add a veteran tight end to the roster for depth.

The last anyone heard on this was when former Cincinnati Bengals tight end Jermaine Gresham visited the Saints a little over a month ago.

While Payton said that that Gresham would be a good fit for the team, nothing else has been reported past that.

With training camp set to take place in just over two weeks I would think if something is going to happen it would be before then.

But if not, then current tight ends Benjamin Watson and Josh Hill should be able to shoulder the load……..
