ESPN Mistakes Saints RB C.J. Spiller For A Falcon
I don’t know how this little gem slipped past me the other day but a friend called my attention to it and had to see for myself.
I haven’t watched ESPN’s daily show “First Take” which has hosts Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless constantly in a “debate” with each other in a very long time.
Mainly I quit watching simply because instead of giving some good sports talk, the show focused more on the verbal abuse between Smith and Bayless than actual information.
Saturday Night Live’s resident impressionist Jay Pharoah made several parodies of the show and actually appeared on “First Take” as a guest analyst where he preceded to mock the high pitched yelling of Smith(it was spot on).
Well “First Take” had another comedian on the other day and instead of him mocking Smith or Bayless, we can end up mocking all three of them.
Actor/comedian Chris Tucker appeared on the show as a special guest where he opened up about his love for his hometown of Atlanta which included the Falcons.
This is where things go downhill for all involved…
If you watch the uploaded video below then you can just zip on to about the 5:45 mark where the hostess, Molly Qerim, tries to give hope to Tucker on his Falcons by saying they have a certain player on the roster.
Just in case you didn’t catch it, she said that the Falcons at least had running back C.J. Spiller on their team…..
Well there’s only one problem with that which is Spiller is actually with the New Orleans Saints and not the Falcons.
What’s worse is Smith actually runs with it and says it’s “very touching” that the Falcons have Spiller.
Then he goes on to insult him by saying “Do you really have a running game..(be)cause Spiller is relatively small.”
Smith ends the talk by saying he likes Spiller but doesn’t think he can “handle the load” when it comes to the amount of carries.

It boggles the mind because Qerim, who is filling in as an interim anchor, has worked with NFL Network before and Smith should know better being involved with ESPN.

Bayless who has taken plenty of grief in the past from Saints fans actually stayed away from the Spiller discussion and focused mainly on Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan…who is really on the roster.
Unlike with Smith, Saints head coach Sean Payton is extremely excited to have Spiller on the roster and was pleasantly surprised when the opportunity arose for the team to have a shot at signing him in free agency.

Former running back Reggie Bush was actually headed to New Orleans for a meeting with Payton , presumably for a chance to rejoin the Saints, when Spiller was signed in March(Bush signed with the San Francisco 49ers not long after).
While Spiller may not get 100% of the carries in the Saints running game, he’s expected to be used in a Darren Sproles role where he is utilized in space as a receiver .
Out of this whole fiasco on “First Take” the real letdown was finding out Tucker, who portrayed Smokey in the hilarious movie “Friday”, is a huge Atlanta fan.
Man…where is Deebo when you need him?
