Griffin, a local product from Tulane University, was considered a favorite to possibly bump veteran Luke McCown from his veteran perch this season.
It didn’t seem that long ago that the St. Louis Rams were wanting to snatch him away from the Saints which is why the club has held a tight grip on him.
Griffin had a good camp last year and performed pretty well in preseason too but he still sat behind McCown at the end of the day.
Enter rookie Garrett Grayson and the climb to back up Drew Brees has become even tougher for the former Green Wave.
Grayson has steadily gotten more reps as training camp progresses and Griffin has seemed to regress with up and down days comparable to a rookie signal caller.
The Saints will need to fully trust whoever is behind Brees and McCown seems to be cementing that as we speak and after using a third round pick on Grayson there is no way they will cut ties with him.
For Griffin to stay on this roster he will have to have a dynamite, and dare I say, mistake free preseason if he wants to stay on the roster.
