I drew the ire of at least one Nick Toon fan back when I wrote an article about how he would need to battle for a spot on the roster this year.
I said I’d give him his due if he proved me wrong…so far I’m still waiting.
Toon is in a true battle as he really hasn’t even shown anything in camp to dissuade the doubters that already exist.
This is actually contrary to the camps he’s had before where he seems to be the second coming of Marques Colston and instead looks like Adrian Arrington when the season starts.
Brandon Coleman has actually taken that “next Colston” crown with his performance in training camp with Willie Snead drawing Lance Moore comparisons.
Toon has all the speed and route running down yet it just doesn’t seem to connect especially this year.
With this being his final year with the team on his rookie contract Toon needs to show what he’s capable of and that the preseason hype that surrounded him the last few years is not just that.
With wide receiver being one position the team is stacked at, Toon needs to be like quarterback Ryan Griffin and have an almost mistake free performance when his number is called.
Otherwise the Saints could decide to part with him a bit earlier than anticipated.
