In the second game of TNT’s NBA season opener the Pelicans will visit Golden State, the team that ousted them from the playoffs and went on to win the 2015 title. This time though, former Warriors assistant Alvin Gentry will be manning the opposite bench.

Opening the season in Golden State will allow Alvin Gentry to receive his championship ring from last season, a well deserved token for a historic year.

There is no doubt that the Warriors and the always electric Oracle Arena will be pulsing with energy as they celebrate their previous season.  But they will not be the only ones in the building who remember that magical run.

What could be better motivation for this young Pelicans team than seeing their new coach and the squad that beat them last season get their rings and have a championship banner raised?

If that will not pump them up, I cannot tell you what would.

But have no fear: Anthony Davis and company will crave the opportunity to get revenge and put on a show for the fans in Oracle and those watching all across the country.

The Pels will be ready to match or even surpass the energy that their hosts bring that night.

The Warriors will still be an upper echelon NBA team when the season rolls around.

Opening night will be a great opportunity for the Pelicans to make a statement and show the rest of the world that they deserve to be a part of the conversation.
