No defense can succeed without a pass rush. You could line Darrelle Revis and Deion Sanders up at Cornerback and a QB given enough time will eventually find an opening big enough to shoehorn a completion into.
You have to have a pass rush to force the ball out fast and force the offense to make mistakes.
Lack of pass rush was the biggest problem last years defense faced while struggling to an 8-5 finish. Losing Danielle Hunter to the Minnesota Vikings in last years draft didn’t exactly help matters either.
Arden Key is the most talented pass rusher Les Miles has recruited since Barkevious Mingo. He has the power-speed combo, the big lean frame and long arms.
He has the desire, as evidenced by his commitment to coming into the program fit and ready to play from his very first practice. Now he has to prove it on the field, and he needs to make waves right away.
If Arden Key can step up and generate pressure on passing downs the talented backs of “DBU” can handle the rest.
More punts and less third down conversions on defense means more chances to shine for Leonard Fournette and the LSU offense. That’s the kind of difference a legit pass rush can make happen.
