Who Wants To Be A Wide Receiver?

I guess the want for this area should actually come from the players and not from anyone else, which is why it’s a huge worry.

The given for the season was Marques Colston and Brandin Cooks would man the #1 and #2 spots followed by Brandon Coleman and Seantavius Jones for #3 and #4, leaving someone like Willie Snead scrambling for a spot.

But as training camp progressed the tables turned and Snead slowly etched a spot into the group, with what might end up being the #4 spot(or what I believe might be #3).

Coleman had a really good game against the Packers last night with four receptions for 82 yards but that has been one game compared to Snead who has been consistent throughout.

Jones has admitted to The Advocate’s Nick Underhill that he started the offseason strong before sputtering to a less than desirable amount of tape to watch.

That leaves the “Two Morgans”, Joe and Josh, to possibly grab the fifth spot with Josh having what looks like the edge.

Payton has always had a soft spot for Joe Morgan but after last nights performance, including a pass he should have caught that bounced for an interception, I don’t know if that will be enough to keep the once promising player.

I will say this about Colston, in the back of my mind I know he has always been a constant on the offense, but the limited time we saw him in preseason didn’t look like the Colston we’ve seen before.

I don’t know if this is a worry, but after the worst season he’s had as a Saint last year the hope is he can regain his old form.

The last thought to keep in mind is that the idea was that someone lie Coleman would take over as a redzone threat ala Jimmy Graham.

I’ll just leave you to marinate on that one…….
