The Turnover Margin

One of the strange but true stats from LSU’s opener was the turnover margin: 0 to 0, neither team lost a single turnover.

Contrast this with Auburn, particularly in the passing game. QB Jeremy Johnson has 5 interceptions through 2 games, and he has seen opposing players drop several other passes that should have been easy picks.

We know LSU lacks depth on the defensive line. Freshman Isaiah Washington may play Saturday, which will help some. Getting the defense off the field will help more.

LSU is characteristically an aggressive, big play defense. Jeremy Johnson should give them some opportunities. They need to capitalize and get their hands on the ball when they get a chance.

Turnovers mean a short field for the offense and less reps for the defense. Buying the defense some extra recovery time on the sideline will be critical for a day game where temperatures could exceed 90 degrees on the field at kickoff.
