During the offseason many thought this receiving group would be one of the weakest parts of the team going in. Admittedly, I thought that as well. With the loss of Kenny Stills and Jimmy Graham it was expected the Saints passing attack might drop off. With the emergence of Willie Snead and Brandin Cooks living up to his potential, this groups is proving those people wrong.

As Mr. Werder stated a little less than a week ago, Snead leads all UDFA players in receiving yards. He added another 95 yards receiving in yesterday’s loss bringing his total up to 626. He is currently on pace to exceed the 1,000 yard barrier.

Cooks is starting to provide consistent help as well. While many fans have shown a bit of impatience when it comes to Cooks’ production (which is crazy when you realize how good it is in comparison to other Saints receiver draft picks), it’s hard to step back and look at the stat sheet he is providing and not be impressed. The 22 year old is over the 600 yard mark as well, with 603, and has reeled in 4 TDs.

Brees and Cooks also seem to finally be connecting on deep routes and could now have the timing needed to stretch the field regularly. If this is the case, opposing defenses beware.

Brandon Coleman, Marques Colston and the tight ends have also stepped up their play in recent weeks. The Saints passing attack has combined for 892 yards and 10 TDs in their last two games with Brees throwing for over 70% in that span. They just have to keep it going.
