What We Liked: Drew Brees

For those who still believe Drew Brees has fallen off (and they are out there), I’d encourage you to look at the follow stat line:

  • 2,763 Passing Yards
  • 238 Completions / 342 Attempts – 69.5% Completion Percentage
  • 18 Touchdowns
  • 7 Interceptions

As the year has progressed, the offense has begun to click as it had in what was once thought a long gone era of dominant Saints football. While there is admittedly still a lack of consistency that both Saints fans and the coaching staff are still searching for, it seems closer to reality than it had before.

Drew is on pace for a 5,180 yard season with 33 TDs thrown. If the offense continues to improve, those numbers could actually go up. Yesterday was a very strong performance for the future Hall Of Famer and was strong enough to earn the team a win. Sadly, that didn’t happen.

If you take away the interception on the deep pass attempt to Ingram the game is arguably one of the best of the season. (The Dallas, Giants and Atlanta games also were very impressive outings.) Brees has always been the QB to make an occasional mistake, but the rumors you used to hear about arm strength and a drop off in his accuracy and play have been all but squelched.

With their Quarterback looking healthy and displaying zip on his passes and nice touch on them as well there is a renewed confidence in the team’s immediate future. Obviously Drew won’t be around forever, but play like yesterday’s will keep fans chanting for “one more year”.
