5 Candidates For New LSU Defensive Coordinator
By Scotty Nola
Bob Shoop
Of all the candidates for the job, Bob Shoop has had the oddest path to this point.
He played his college ball at Yale, a national powerhouse in the 19th century.
Shoop was a wide receiver at Yale, but he has never coached offense.
He spent most of his career coaching defensive backs at various smaller schools up and down the Eastern Seaboard before accepting the Vanderbilt Defensive Coordinator job in 2011.
Shoop followed Vandy head coach James Franklin to Penn State in 2014.
The trust shown in Shoop by Coach Franklin certainly speaks well for him. He also has that critical combination of coaching and recruiting experience in the SEC.
