LSU Recruiting Team Has “BIG” Weekend On Tap

The season is over but football is about to go into overtime for the LSU coaching staff this weekend. The recruiting dead period is almost over, and a huge group of potential signees are taking their official visits to LSU this weekend.

Before the weekend even starts the coaches will start with a crucial in home visit with QB recruit Anthony Russo.

Russo was not highly recruited initially and gave a verbal commitment to nearby Rutgers. He started getting national attention after making the prestigious Elite 11 team last summer.

Russo is still listed as only a three-star recruit, but his highlight film shows a QB with great physical tools and touch on the ball.

Coach Miles and Coach Cameron will have to hurry back to Baton Rouge after they meet with Russo, because they have a very full slate of official visits this weekend.

Current commits making their official include: WR Da’Monte Coxie (East St. John), DE Andre Anthony (Edna Karr), DT Glen Logan (Destrehan), DE Rahssan Thornton (Shoemaker, Texas), S Cameron Lewis (Wossman), TE Jamal Pettigrew (St. Augustine), DT Ed Alexander (St. Thomas Aquinas), and OG Donavaughn Campbell (Pontchatoula).

Campbell and Pettigrew are both listed among the top ten players at their positions, with Anthony, Logan, Thornton, Lewis and Alexander all listed among the top 25.

As impressive as that LSU recruiting group is, the uncommitted recruits coming into Baton Rouge this weekend are the kind of athletes that could make this recruiting class a lock for the number one overall ranking.

S Nigel Warrior (Peachtree Ridge, Georgia), CB Kristian Fulton (Rummel), DT Rashard Lawrence (Neville, OT Willie Allen (John Curtis), and DT D’Andre Christmas-Giles (St. Augustine).

Warrior is the #4 ranked safety in this years class, LSU is fighting Tennessee, Bama, and Georgia for his services.

Kristian Fulton of Archbishop Rummel is the #4 ranked CB in the country and a heavy LSU lean. He has been getting a real push from Florida though, and LSU needs to seal the deal here.

Neville DT Rashard Lawrence is the #5 DT in the country. He is an LSU lean, but he is getting a lot of attention from Ohio State and Bama — so this is another recruit LSU really needs to lock up this weekend.

Curtis OT Willie Allen is the #11 ranked OT in the country. He is leaning to LSU but is looking at Ole Miss, Bama and TCU as well.

St. Aug DT D’Andre Christmas-Giles is a consensus three-star athlete ranked #40 in the country at his position, but don’t let the lower rankings fool you. He was a late bloomer and his recruiting has really heated up over the last couple of months with a number of major programs working on him. This is a guy LSU really wants to sign.

This weekend is a high stakes event for the Tigers staff.

There could be multiple commitment announcements in the works, and a great weekend here will launch the Tigers down the stretch run towards a number one class on signing day……
