Staying Put

This is the most likely scenario for the Pelicans.

It’s possible they move up, down, or sideways, but odds are they are simply going to pick whichever player they think can help them win the most when their draft clock begins to tick.

That probably means either Buddy Hield, Kris Dunn, or Jamal Murray will be wearing a Pelicans uniform next season. With the departure of Eric Gordon this summer, and the possible departure of Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans next summer, it might be wise for the Pelicans to focus on bringing some youth to their backcourt.

Drafting one of these young guards will also allow head coach Alvin Gentry to mold his point guard from day-one, rather than trying to force veterans with bad habits into positions they don’t feel comfortable playing.

Regardless of what the Pelicans do, it’s bound to be an exciting night. The haters will claim Demps has sealed out fate as perennial bottom-feeders, the believers will convince themselves we picked a future All-Star, and everyone in the middle will simple hope things turn out okay.

Win or lose, it beats sitting at home and doing nothing. You can argue the results of Dell’s trades all day, but you can’t deny that he has stripped us of a certain sense of excitement when this time of year comes around.

Draft Night might be a complete disaster, but at least we’ll have a reason to watch…..
