Football is the ultimate team game, and every single position is important. But once the season is underway there are some players whose production — or lack thereof — will be the deciding factor in whether or not the Saints return to the NFL Playoffs.

The purpose of this article isn’t to discuss players like Cam Jordan or Drew Brees.

The Saints already know what they are capable of, and if the Saints are going to make any noise come December and January, they will need to produce at the level expected of them.

Ultimately, the Saints season will be decided by unheralded names at mostly low profile positions.

The national media will probably never mention them, even if the Saints turn into contenders over the course of the season. But “The Who Dat Nation” will know them and celebrate them, especially if they produce at the level Sean Payton and Micky Loomis are betting on.

The head coach and GM rolled the dice with some of these players this off-season, and time will tell if the bets pay off.
