Training camp has begun and Drew Brees still hasn’t worked out an extension with the Saints. Brees has self-imposed a deadline of the start of the regular season. The clock is ticking…

That’s how big Drew Brees’ cap hit will be for the Saints in 2016.

It’s an astronomical number, far and away the biggest cap hit in NFL history. The Saints have been in proverbial “salary cap jail” for a few years now, and the poorly structured Drew Brees deal is a part of it.

Bad personnel decisions and dead money are the worst culprits, however, the current situation is the height of absurdity.
