#3. The Saints Could Still Sign Free Agents
As evidenced by the recent Hakeem Nicks signing, there are still free agents out there that can help teams. If the Saints were to extend Drew Brees’ contract, it would free up precious cap space and they might be able to sign another difference maker.
Guard Louis Vasquez would be an interesting player to target. He has experience on a championship team, and while last year was a bit of a downer for him, he arguably has more talent than Senio Kelemente or Tim Lelito. At the very least, adding him to mix would make for more heated competition at the starting guard spots.

Another intriguing free agent would be Dwight Freeney.
Freeney had a productive season with the Cardinals last year, and he could be the answer the Saints are seeking for pressuring the quarterback.
With the injury to Hau’oli Kikaha the Saints are currently looking at unproven players like Davis Tull to provide that spark. While Tull could be the answer, it never hurts to have more effective pass rushers in the defensive rotation.
However, there’s a more pressing reason the Saints should get this deal done now….
