How will Aranda’s defense look in their first game?

Dave Aranda has spent the summer installing his version of the 3-4 defense, a defense he brought with him from Wisconsin.

It is no secret that LSU is loaded with talent on that side of the ball. The question will be how quickly the players will adjust to their new roles.

An injury to Christian Lacouture has already shuffled the lineup with junior Greg Gilmore getting the start at nose tackle.

Keep an eye on Travonte Valentine in rotation at this position. The former 5 star recruit is a giant at 6’4 356 lbs and should play a big role on the defense during the season.

Sophomore Arden Key and Senior Kendell Beckwith will be “glue guys” as the front seven tries to gel.

No doubt there will be growing pains as all of these players are only one off season removed from playing in a 4-3 scheme.

The fact that Aranda had success with less talent in all three seasons with the Badgers is reason enough to think that the learning curve will hopefully be short. We’ll see what kind of greeting that Wisconsin fans give him as “the enemy” now, this Saturday Night.
