Nick Fairley, Defensive Tackle
The 6th year defensive tackle is perhaps having the best season of his career. Although he technically signed a 3 year contract when coming over from the Rams this past off season, the contract does become “void” in February 2017, and will allow him to negotiate with other teams.
Fairley has safely put to rest the allegations of inconsistent effort that were prevalent early in his career, and has most certainly earned a long term contract somewhere.
Let us all hope that the Saints will be able to afford him, and do so without worsening the “salary cap hell” that they are finally beginning to work their way out from under.
Teaming the 28 year old lineman with first round pick Sheldon Rankins should make the Saints interior line a team strength, for the foreseeable future.
