Dannell Ellerbe, Weakside Linebacker
Ellerbe has only played 4 out of the Saints 11 games so far this season, but this is a VASTLY different defense when he is a part of it on the field.
Much has been written about Ellerbe’s inability to be a more reliable presence (health-wise) in the New Orleans lineup; but in recent weeks he has been a dominant force from his “Will” / weakside linebacker position — providing both a fearsome pass rush and a consistent presence in pass coverage.
The Lions running backs may not provide a big threat on the ground, but they are legitimate pass recieving threats.
Ellerbe and fellow “Mike” / middle linebacker Craig Robertson’s ability to cover them will be a key match up all afternoon.
