DELVIN BREAUX, #1 / OUTSIDE BOUNDARY CORNERBACK

Breaux’s 2015 debut with the Saints was a heartwarming story of a player hitting the big league after a devastating high school neck injury.

Breaux also showed that he had the potential to be considered among the top cornerbacks in the NFL, and a key piece in a very young defense in rebuilding mode.

Breaux suffered a broken leg in the Saints season opening loss to the Oakland Raiders, and missed the next 8 games.

Upon his week 9 return to the lineup, it was obvious that the 27 year old Breaux was still hampered with the injury. He struggled a bit with penalties, and was in and out of the New Orleans lineup until the Saints ended his season prior to last week’s game against Tampa Bay.

Even with Breaux at a fraction of his abilities, he still exhibited toughness in showdowns with Denver’s Demaryius Thomas and Tampa’s Mike Evans.

Delvin Breaux will show in 2017 that he belongs in the conversation with the league’s top defensive backs. Breaux’s absence from the Saints lineup may not have been nearly as debilitating, if either of our next hard luck stories of 2016 had been able to take the field….
