Sean Payton and offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael are two of the best game planners and play callers that the NFL has to offer.

However, the team went back and forth between the two men as to who would be the primary game manager, leading to some inconsistencies in the offensive output.

The offense’s failures in losses to the Giants(16-13), Lions (28-13), and Buccaneers (16-11) had every bit as much to do with this team missing the playoffs for a third consecutive season than the more publicized failings of an undermanned and injury-depleted defense and special teams blunders.
