New Orleans Pelicans: Why the Pels can be the NBA’s most electric team
By Jason Reed
1. The off-court buzz is going to be just as prominent as the on-court play
We will get to the on-court play a little bit later. First, we have to talk about the off-court buzz that is going to be surrounding the Pelicans all season long. While it could be a headache for Pelican fans at the time, it is the storylines around teams that people love that makes them tune in more and more.
The elephant in the room is obviously Zion, who is the most polarizing athlete to come to the NBA since LeBron James. Whether or not Zion is as good as we think we can be in his rookie year does not matter. He is going to have more eyes on him than any other rookie has in the last 15 years.
But let’s not forget that the Pelicans also got another person that is covered immensely in the media, at least by association. That is none other than LaVar Ball, who made himself a household name for his outlandish comments about Lonzo Ball prior to and while being a Laker.
I get it, you probably saw what LaVar was doing in LA from an outsiders perspective and the last thing that you want as a fan is for there to be more storylines. However, it is inevitable that it is only a matter of time before LaVar calls his son the greatest Pelican to ever play, so might as well embrace it.
It might be a bit of a headache at times but if we look at it in a positive light, it will draw more conversation around the Pelicans, which by definition, gives them an electric factor that no other team really has.
