New Orleans Saints: Three signs that might lead to regression in 2019

1. Father time is catching up to Drew Brees
There is only one undefeated person in all of sports and no, I am not talking about Floyd Mayweather. The only thing that has never been beaten, in the history of every single sport, is father time. Playing sports is a young man game, especially at the pro level.
Drew Brees is not a young man. Brees is set to enter his age 40 season and will turn 41 during the playoffs.
I know, I know, every year we have this discussion about Tom Brady and he continues to light it up and win Super Bowls. Heck, Brees was even a legitimate MVP candidate for most of the season and likely would have won the award if Patrick Mahomes wasn’t historic.
However, while the overall numbers were there, Brees did show some negative signs late in the season. In his last five games last season, Brees threw for 1,028 yards with only seven touchdowns and four interceptions.
Not bad numbers, but certainly not on the level that he normally is. Also, keep in mind that 326 of those yards came against an already defeated Carolina Panthers team in Week 16. There was a four-game stretch there where Brees was just, well, average.
And as good as the supporting cast is around him, it still is not a perfect team and it has holes. This team is going to be as successful as Drew Brees is and at 40 years old, it is going to be more of a challenge.
