Defense: Take advantage in the trenches

It is a cliche that is as old as football itself but one of the biggest keys to winning or losing football games is winning in the trenches. Because of that, it might seem a bit redundant to say that the LSU Tigers need to take advantage in the trenches to be successful against the Longhorns.

However, when it comes down to it, that is what is going to make the difference on the defensive side of the ball for LSU. If they can take advantage in the trenches then the rest of the defense should have an easy time. If they do not take advantage then Texas is going to get more chances than they should.

Texas’ offensive line is not the best, although it had a good showing in Week 1. However, last year they were not as good as a big Power 5 offensive line should have been and this is going to be a big prove it game for them.

LSU has a solid defensive line but it is not something that is absolutely menacing, making it a big prove it game for both teams. If LSU gets the advantage then Texas will struggle to run the ball, as they did last year.

However, if Texas manages to hold strong then they are going to be able to piece together drives and give Sam Ehlinger enough time to have another great game to start the year.
