New Orleans Pelicans: Three players to target after Darius Miller exception
By Jason Reed
2. Jonathon Simmons
Unless you are a pretty big NBA fan and follow other teams very closely, there is a chance that you probably have not heard of Jonathon Simmons. If you have heard of Simmons, you probably do not know much about him, who he is or the level of player he is in the NBA.
Simmons still being on the market should tell you how other teams evaluate him but he would not be a bad shout for the Pelicans to take a chance on and add depth at the small forward position. Adding Simmons would give the team more depth at both the two and three, something that the team does need with Miller out of action.
Simmons did not have that impressive of a season last year and that is part of the reason why the Philadelphia 76ers wanted to get rid of his contract and traded him to the Washington Wizards this offseason, who subsequently waived him.
Just because he became one of the worst contracts in the league does not mean he is a bad player. Heck, just two seasons ago, Simmons averaged 13.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game with the Orlando Magic.
He was not even that bad last year once he was traded to the 76ers. He may have only scored 5.5 points in 14.6 minutes per game, but he knocked down 42.9 percent of his threes on an attempt and half per game.
If that is all he brings to the Pelicans then that is fine, that is enough to warrant the signing. However, with the potential upside, the Pelicans may definitely want to take a look at Simmons.
