Why are we making a big deal about Zion Williamson’s height?

Zion Williamson’s official height was released on Friday and for some reason or another, it has taken the NBA media landscape by storm.

Zion Williamson was the most hyped and anticipated rookie since LeBron James entered the draft out of high school 16 years ago. The entire NBA lottery was positioned around not who would get the highest picks, but who would get the luxury of drafting Zion Williamson.

We have not had a player that has felt this talented who also is bust-proof in a decade and a half. Of course, nothing is a guarantee in life and these expectations could fall flat, but as long as Zion stays healthy, he should be in great shape to succeed in the NBA.

Heck, the buzz for Zion has been a little too extreme as ESPN ranked him ahead of the likes of Klay Thompson and Kevin Love. Granted, Klay was ranked so low because of his injury but ESPN still ranked Zion as the 41st-best player in the league.

Granted, this is just a subjective ranking but it still shows how much buzz Zion Williamson has received and how excited sports fans are to see him in action.

We all got to see that ridiculous amount of buzz on Friday in a head-scratching way. Zion’s official measurements were revealed and it showed that he is an inch shorter (six-foot-six) than he was listed at Duke.

The first question I had to this news and the following buzz was why anyone cared about one inch. Granted, I am playing into what I am complaining about, but it is still interesting to see why people care this much about one inch of height.

This does not change Zion Williamson at all. He is not going to suddenly struggle to finish at the rim or guard opposing power forwards. We all knew that he was an undersized four to begin with and it is not like this one inch of height is going to be the difference between the playoffs and the lottery this year.

Heck, I even saw one person on Twitter (who shall not be named) argue that Zion should be inclined on now losing weight because he one inch shorter than we all thought.

So it was okay for Zion to weigh 280 pounds when it was believed that he was six-seven. But hey, now that we know that he is actually six-six it is clear that he is overweight? How absurd is that?

It is just a funny representation of how passionate NBA fans and how NBA news gets blown up so much. We see it all year long, “NBA Twitter” is always in the spotlight, turning painfully useless things like this into a full-blown media story.

Guess what? Zion will probably grow that extra inch back as he is only 19 years old.

Next. Don't sleep on Josh Hart. dark

If you are a fan of the New Orleans Pelicans and Zion being one-inch shorter legitimately worries you then just take my word for it: it won’t make any difference.
