The LSU Football team is undefeated and has a huge game coming up against the Florida Gators that won’t do anything to help their ranking

The LSU football team enjoyed yet another easy win on Saturday behind yet another fantastic game by quarterback Joe Burrow, who continues his blazing path towards the Heisman Trophy.

We were hoping that something could happen in the top four of the college football rankings in order for LSU to slip into that illustrious group. And while there was movement, it did not impact the Tigers whatsoever.

Georgia moved down to third and Ohio State moved up to second with a win over then-25th-ranked Michigan State. The Tigers held pat at fifth.

One team that enjoyed some movement was the Florida Gators, who defeated Auburn at home this past week. Florida moved three spots from 10th to seventh and now have an even bigger challenge as they are on the road against LSU.

It feels like a safe assumption that the LSU football team would make the leap into the top four if they were to defeat Florida after their definitive win over Auburn. And while that makes sense on paper, it, unfortunately, will not be the case, barring some crazy surprise loss by a team ahead of them.

In most cases, a win over a highly ranked opponent will get a team into the top four but LSU is not going to get that honor until someone in the top four either slips or until they beat a team in the top four, which is why the Alabama game later in the season is so important.

As long as those teams keep winning, regardless of who they play, the voters are going to continue to vote for them. Since the top four is so important, it is one of those things where it can be hard to get into but hard to get out of once you are there.

Heck, LSU has the most impressive win of any team in the top five. Their win over Texas, on the road nonetheless, is more impressive than any win that the top four has and that is including Georgia’s win over Notre Dame.

Ohio State did not play a single ranked team before this weekend and even then the Spartans were tied for 25th. But since Ohio State has not done anything to lose their spot at a playoff team the voters have kept them in the top four and have even moved them up.

This win over Flordia will have an impact on the College Football Playoff, although it can only hurt the Tigers. If they win, it will only matter if they are able to beat Alabama later in the year. If they lose, but Alabama, that loss will be hung over their head and could keep them out of the playoff, as ridiculous as it is.

The LSU Football team has nothing to gain from this game but everything to lose; which is unfortunate, because if they had the reputation of these other schools then this win would cement them as the best team in the country.
