The LSU Football Tigers host the Florida Gators this Saturday in a game with National Championship, and who is the true DBU, implications.

The LSU football team has boasted countless elite players in the secondary that not only had success at the collegiate level but went on to have success in the NFL. Jamal Adams, Morris Claiborne, Tyrann Mathieu and Eric Reid are some active players, just to name a few.

With that in mind, LSU had dubbed itself the moniker of being Defensive Back University (DBU), a moniker that several teams throughout college football have given themselves.

Miami, Ohio State, heck, even Texas was in on the DBU fun prior to their game against LSU. LSU went on the road and beat Texas, so there’s that.

There is no DBU rivalry that is stronger than the rivalry between LSU and Florida, though. Two teams that have the resume to don the true DBU moniker and two teams that play in the same conference and are hopeful of the same thing: a National Championship.

With LSU being ranked fifth and Florida being ranked seventh, this game absolutely has National Championship repercussions. We could end up seeing whoever wins this game in the College Football Playoff.

So it will come down to a battle between two elite secondaries, not only for the bragging rights of being the true DBU but to eliminate the title hope for their rival.

It does not stop there, though. While the battle for DBU literally is between the defensive backs, there is a player that is going to play a huge role in deciding who the true DBU is: and that is none other than Joe Burrow.

Burrow has the power in his hands to not only put his team in a situation to win but to make the idea of Florida being the true DBU seem like an inconceivable one.

Burrow has been one of the best quarterbacks in the country this season and is putting up numbers that we have never seen out of an LSU quarterback. He has trusted his way into the Heisman trophy conversation and can go down as the greatest LSU quarterback of all-time if he leads the Tigers to a National Championship.

The Gators present his biggest challenge yet but Burrow has given us every reason thus far this season to believe that he can come through. He may not have an eye-popping game as he has the last two games, but he absolutely can put together a great showing that wins the Tigers this game.

And even if it is more Burrow beating the Gators’ secondary rather than the Gators’ secondary collapsing, it is impossible to call Florida the real DBU if they allow Burrow to have a 300-yard, three-touchdown game.

Why beating Florida won't lead to a top-four ranking. dark. Next

The defensive backs will do their part in securing the title that should already be theirs. But more importantly, it will be the quarterback that helps prove that the LSU Football team is the real DBU.
