The LSU football team has yet another tough matchup against the Auburn football team this Saturday that should move them up in the rankings.

The LSU football team has not had an easy path to being the second-ranked team in the nation. LSU already has two wins over ranked opponents this season and is taking on another ranked opponent in the Auburn football team on Saturday.

This is a huge game for LSU, as it is the appetizer for LSU’s huge matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide in two weeks. That game with Alabama is likely going to decide which team goes to the College Football Playoff and a win over Auburn would be huge in garnering momentum.

The Tigers are big favorites in this matchup. According to the Action Network, LSU is 11-point favorites over Auburn, so while the Tigers will have their hands full, LSU fans should be confident in a win this week.

More from Big Easy Believer

While LSU is heavy favorites in this game, beating Auburn should not be discounted. In fact, a win over the Auburn Tigers should lead to LSU being the first-ranked team in the nation as they head into their undefeated matchup against Alabama.

In reality, it does not really matter which team is ranked first heading into the game as it does not decide anything: Alabama is still going to be the home team and the winner of the game will exit as the first-ranked team in the country.

However, while it might not matter much, it is really hard to deny the Tigers the first spot in the college football rankings with a win. This will be the third top-10 team that LSU has beaten, and if they yet again do it in definitive fashion, then what else is there to prove?

Alabama is a powerhouse and they are a deserving team of being ranked first, but they have not proven anywhere near as much this season. Alabama’s best win this season is against Texas A&M, who is a good team but is not even close to Texas or Florida.

Heck, Alabama has not yet played a team that had better than a .500 record at the time of playing them.

If LSU loses to Alabama in two weeks then fine, knock them down in the rankings. But continuously giving Alabama the first spot in the standings just because they are Alabama is unfair to the Tigers.

The Tigers have proven more this season, have a Heisman candidate at quarterback and have a ridiculous offense. The naysayers can no longer deny LSU, they have passed every test this season.

But we all know that Alabama will still be ranked first after yet another easy game against 2-5 Arkansas, while the LSU football team wins its third game against a top-10 team.
