New Orleans Pelicans: Betting guide vs. Denver Nuggets
By Jason Reed
The New Orleans Pelicans are still searching for the first win of the season and have a tough matchup to do so on Halloween against the Denver Nuggets.
The start of the regular season for the New Orleans Pelicans has been the complete opposite of how the team performed in the regular season. The Pelicans went a perfect 5-0 in the preseason and are off to an 0-4 start this season.
This has been the perfect example as to why we should not take wins and losses seriously in the preseason and only the individual performances. Some of the individual performances have carried on and been even better, such as Brandon Ingram, and some have fallen flat.
Plus, this is a tea, that really needs that extra dynamic scorer and game-changer in Zion Williamson. If Zion was healthy, the Pelicans would at least be 2-2 this season.

Instead, the Pelicans join the Sacramento Kings as the only two teams without a win so far.
The Pelicans have a tough task if they want to move to 1-4 instead of 0-5 on Halloween night as they take on the 3-1 Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets finished second in the Western Conference with 54 wins last season.
Despite the difference in records and the fact that the Pelicans are 0-4, the team only enters the game as 2.5 point underdogs, according to the Action Network. That line is subject to move, as right now the New Jersey line is the only available, but it definitely is an intriguing line.
So far this year we are 2-2 in guessing the New Orleans Pelicans against the spread. And most importantly, we are riding a two-game winning streak.
In this one, as sad as it is, I have to go with the Denver Nuggets -2.5. I know, I am a complete buzzkill for going against the Pelicans, but I just have to be honest with myself and you, the reader.
The Nuggets are healthy and have one of the most talented and dynamic big-men in the league in Nikola Jokic. With a somewhat weak frontcourt without Zion Williamson, Jokic is primed to have a really big night on Thursday.
From top to bottom the Nuggets have a better and more experienced roster than the Pelicans, at least right now. If you are given the chance to take the Nuggets as only 2.5 point favorites against a winless team then you have to take it every single time.
I do hope that the Pelicans completely prove me wrong and not just cover the spread and come within two, but win the game outright. That will feel better than a trivial betting prediction.
