The New Orleans Pelicans take on the Dallas Mavericks for the second time this season on Tuesday with the season perhaps slipping away from them.

The New Orleans Pelicans went on a bit of a hot streak to instill hope back into the fanbase and show us that the team really is talented enough to be a playoff team, when they are at full health, of course.

However, since then, the injuries and inexperience that comes with this promising young group of players has led to another cold streak. The Pelicans have lost five games in a row and now sit at 6-14 for the season.

It feels as if the season is officially slipping away from the Pelicans as we are a quarter of the way through the NBA season. While a lot can certainly happen in the next 62 games, solely based on how the Pelicans have played thus far, it appears as if they have already dug a rut that is too big to escape from.

That is not to say that they won’t get hot and finish the year on a promising note closer to .500, but the chances of the Pelicans outlasting other teams for a playoff spot in the West is slim to none.

There is a good chance that the Pelicans’ losing streak extends to six games on Tuesday as well as the team is taking on the surprising 13-6 Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch this season and seeing Luka Doncic take this MVP leap has been incredible.

New Orleans is getting a little bit of love odds-wise as they are the home team, maybe a little bit too much love. According to the Action Network, the Pelicans are only four-point underdogs against the Dallas Mavericks in this game.

As we have (rather unsuccessfully) for every game this season, here is our against the spread prediction.

Prediction (Record: 6-11-1): Dallas Mavericks, -4

It is a broken record at this point: I have faith in the New Orleans Pelicans and they marginally let me down and then I decide to go against them and they surprise me with a good game.

I just can’t take the Pelicans as four-point underdogs in this game. While the Mavericks are on the road, this is a team that has been much better than anticipated this season and this game does have blowout potential.

Next. In hindsight, we should not be surprised with the Pelicans. dark

But, since I picked the Mavericks, Pelican fans can be happy in knowing that they will at least cover the spread and maybe even win the game. My reverse-jinx lately has been at full force.
