LSU Football: It’s outrageous if LSU isn’t ranked first after beating Georgia
By Jason Reed
The LSU football team takes on fourth-ranked Georgia in the SEC Championship in a game that should make the Tigers the first seed in the College Football Playoff.
The LSU football team hast passed every test thus far this season even when it feels like the general public is not buying in on how good this team is. That is still the narrative heading into the SEC Championship, as LSU is ranked second in the nation behind Ohio State.
Whatever, it does not really matter right now. While LSU is currently the second seed in the College Football Playoff, things can change, right? Well, if they don’t then it will be one of the most outrageous seedings in the playoff history.
It might seem like we are crying over sour grapes between the first and second seed in the playoff and maybe we should just be happy that LSU has made the final four for the first time since its inception (we think they deserve to be in even with a loss to Georgia).

However, it does make a big difference as if LSU if the second seed they are going to have to play Clemson in the first round of the playoffs. Yes, if LSU is going to be National Champions then they are going to have to get through Clemson or Ohio State (or both) regardless.
But the Tigers deserve to play the fourth-ranked team, which right now, looks like it will be a much easier opponent than Clemson. Who would you rather play, Utah or Clemson? The answer is clear.
It might be OKlahoma, but regardless, those teams are not as polished and successful in the playoff as Clemson is and LSU deserves the easiest path to the National Championship Game for what they have done this season.
Let’s just break down what LSU has done this year versus what Ohio State has done. Both teams are 13-0.
Ohio State is the one school that can keep up with the teams that the LSU football team has beaten. The Buckeyes have signature wins over Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin and Cincinnati, four schools that are ranked at the end of the year. Cincinnati was not ranked when they played and Michigan State was ranked, now they are not.
The schools that are currently ranked that LSU has beaten are Florida, Auburn and Alabama. However, the team also defeated Texas, who was ranked ninth at the time of the game. This gives LSU four wins over opponents who were ranked in the top-10.
The four ranked wins that Ohio State has, at the time of the game, were ranked 25th, 13th, eighth and 13th. One win against a top-10 opponent in Penn State.
Let’s also keep in mind that they beat Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Cincinnati at home. The only ranked opponent they beat on the road was Michigan, who, to be fair, they creamed.
The LSU football team beat Texas and Alabama on the road.
The one thing that is in Ohio State’s favor is the margin of victory. Their closest win against the ranked opponents was 11 points, which came against Penn State. Whereas LSU beat Alabama, Auburn and Texas by a combined 15 points.
The one final thing that should sway it in LSU’s favor, though, is the SEC Championship. If LSU wins this game it will be their fifth win over a top-10 opponent and a win over an opponent that is essentially in the playoff right now.
That should be enough to give them the “easier” of the two matchups and give them the first seed over Ohio State, who plays Wisconsin again.
Five wins against top-10 teams and two against top-four teams. If this was Alabama, people would be calling them the greatest team of all-time. The LSU football team deserves that first seed if they are SEC Champions.
