New Orleans Pelicans: Betting guide in Phoenix Suns rematch
By Jason Reed
The New Orleans Pelicans have lost seven games in a row and are at home again on Thursday to take on the struggling Phoenix Suns.
Things are not looking good for the New Orleans Pelicans. After a short winning streak that brought back the promise of this season, the Pelicans have gone on to lose six games in a row and are now sitting at a 6-16 record.
The Pelicans have the second-worst record in the league, ahead of just the injury-plagued Golden State Warriors, and have the second-longest losing streak in the league right now behind the New York Knicks.
This is not the promising start that fans had hoped for. There have been positives in Brandon Ingram’s ascendance into an all-star but Jrue Holiday has not taken the extra step we expected and Zion Williamson still has not played.
But hey — all you can do is take things one game at a time and the Pelicans have a chance to right the ship against a struggling Phoenix Suns team, who ironically is the last team that the Pelicans have defeated.
After a promising 5-2 start, the Suns have gone 4-9 in their last 13. They have also lost four of their last five.
The good thing is that there are no ties in basketball and one of these teams is going to get a much-needed win. The gambling odds think it will be the Pelicans, who are the home team, as the team is three-point favorites in this contest, according to the Action Network.
Against the spread prediction: (7-11-1): Phoenix Suns +3
Until this losing streak ends I am going to be beating against the New Orleans Pelicans in this series, as long as the line is not too high. It is the classic trick of riding a hot wave in roulette and betting the same color over and over and I am doing the same for the Pelicans.
Taking the Pelicans as favorites, even if it is against the Phoenix Suns, just feels wrong on so many levels. While I do think that if they win they will win by more than three, I just cannot trust New Orleans to get the job done with the lack of size and the way they are currently playing.
Hey, the best-case scenario here is that the Pelicans win by one or two points. But until they right the ship, I am betting with the tide.
