The LSU football team knew that it had its hands full in the SEC Championship against No. 4 Georgia and the Tigers took care of business, and then some.

The SEC Championship Game had a lot of implications for the College Football Playoff. If the LSU Football team won it would open the floodgates for there to be a new No. 4, with various different possibilities depending on what went down.

If Georgia were to win then they would have clinched their spot in the College Football Playoff and LSU likely would have stayed in as the No. 4 seed because of how good they have been, and how much better they are than the No. 4 team, who will likely be Oklahoma.

We should get a to see just how much better LSU is in the first round of the College Football Playoff, not the second round, as the Tigers have definitively proven that they are the best team in the country and there is nothing that Ohio State can say about it.

We talked about it leading up to this game. LSU had four wins against top-10 opponents leading into the SEC Championship. The win over Georgia is not only the team’s fifth win against a top-10 school but is LSU’s second-win against a top-four school.

Ohio State did have some impressive wins leading into this Saturday but they did not stack up against what LSU has done and how they have done it.

There are a good portion of college football fans that thought the LSU football team would be ranked second even if they beat Georgia, assuming Ohio State beat Wisconsin, of course.

That is what ended up happening but now the answer is as clear as day and the general population has picked up on it. You simply cannot deny this LSU team.

Just look at what they did to Georgia, the team that had the second-best defense in the nation in terms of points allowed per game. There were some rollovers in that schedule but Georgia played some pretty good teams and did not allow a single team all year to score more than 20 points.

LSU scores 37, which could be considered a slow day for Joe Burrow and company. Meanwhile, the “terrible” LSU defense held Jake Fromm and the Bulldogs to just 10 points. That is about as dominant of a win as you can get.

Meanwhile, Ohio State was struggling against Wisconsin early and even entered halftime with a two-possession lead. Granted, they came back to win, but the stark difference in the style of victory should be telling for the committee.

If the LSU Football team ends up being the No. 2 team and has to play Clemson in the first round then there should be justified outrage. Granted, LSU will have to beat either them or Ohio State to win the National Championship, but they shouldn’t have to beat both.
