The New Orleans Saints have already begun the process of whittling down their roster with the reported release of guard Jahri Evans, wide receiver Seantavius Jones, linebacker David Hawthorne, and linebacker Ramon Humber.

It’s assumed that the confirmed release of Brandon Browner is coming as well; since he posted a farewell message along with ESPN’s John Clayton reporting the same.

While these cuts were necessary with the Saints facing a tight salary cap heading towards free agency, it leaves the team with some holes to fill especially at guard, since Evans was a starter.

As it’s been noted several times before, head coach Sean Payton has said that the Saints will be active in free agency but that’s a long way from saying they’ll be “big players” in it.

Considering their track record for the last few seasons in free agency, they should probably tread lightly when it comes to bringing new talent in.

This could be because the Saints always seem to either sign a player that is injury prone, already dealing with an injury, or doesn’t seem to fit the scheme or plan that they want to implement on said player.

The Saints also have some of their own free agents to re-sign, so money will be at a premium when the new league year begins on March 9th.

Of course, New Orleans could always look to bring in some familiar faces that currently aren’t with the club in order to not only provide depth, but familiarity with the player as well.

And before we get started with looking at some of those familiar faces, let’s just go ahead and agree that some of these are “long-shots”, but let’s also be honest and admit that some of these names have already been mentioned or will be mentioned by Who Dats on the cusp of free agency — so extinguish your torches and put away your knives, my little trolls.

And we’ll start first with this guy — whom you all might remember fondly………..
