Not really an exciting face-off against the Saints, but Spears may have a chance to show he belongs with the Packers.

The Saints signed Spears as an undrafted free agent this year following the draft out of New Hampshire along with his fellow teammate R.J. Harris.

Considering that the depth at tight end was lacking and wide receiver was a bit crowded, it was a surprise when the Saints decided to cut Spears loose in June leaving only four tight ends on the roster.

Spears was picked up by the Packers almost immediately and signed to a 2-year contract worth $960,000.

The Packers and Saints will face off in a final preseason game for both teams on September 3rd at 6:00 p.m. CDT at Lambeau Field.

If he makes it past the first round of cuts on September 1st then Spears could see some action against New Orleans.

But with a crowded tight end position on the Packers roster, he’ll have to battle fellow rookies Mitchell Henry and Kennard Backman for the opportunity.
