Saints 53-Man Roster Moves Are Both Obvious And Curious
Quarterbacks
The Obvious
-Drew Brees is the untouchable here and you knew that with the Saints investing a third round pick this year in Garrett Grayson that he wasn’t going anywhere so the Saints had to make a difficult decision concerning Luke McCown and Ryan Griffin.
Griffin seemed the odd man out as soon as Grayson came on the scene and I mentioned numerous time that he’d have to have a flawless preseason to beat McCown out..and it was anything other than that.
Yes McCown is no Brees and he had his share of lowlights and erratic play but in the end the one thing that seemed to beat Griffin was experience, which McCown has and head coach Sean Payton loves.
You knew when Griffin’s playing time diminished in preseason and his sulky body language was broadcast on T.V. then the former Tulane product was gone.
The Curious
-There is really nothing curious about this move since the Saints had to have known he wouldn’t make it through waivers(he was one of the first few announced), but it will be curious if not odd to see him in a Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniform since they claimed him off waivers immediately.
