Add Chris Ivory to some Saints fans list of “the one that got away” when it comes to running backs along with Darren Sproles.

Oh come on I’ve heard too many of you with the “if we just had Sproles back” so don’t play coy with me…but let’s move on.

Much like with Sproles he was traded away for a draft selection with Ivory being sent to the New York Jets in 2013 for a fourth round pick.

I always liked Ivory and felt he ran hard and was physical, which it seems lead to multiple injuries and him being active for only 12 games in his final two seasons with the Black and Gold.

But leave it to fate and it seems when the Saints let a player go they blossom and Ivory did just that in New York where he rushed for over 1,000 yards this past season and has managed to stay healthy, with only being inactive for two games in three seasons.

While Ivory would be welcomed back to the Saints gladly, they already have a log-jam at the running back position coupled with having to decide what to do in regards to impending free agents such as Tim Hightower and Khiry Robinson who is a restricted free agent that the club will need to assign a tender to if they wish to keep him.

With the success he’s had with the Jets he’ll either re-sign there or with another team for some nice cash which the Saints won’t get in a bidding war over.
