LSU Football: Joe Burrow is officially a Heisman must-watch
By Jason Reed
Joe Burrow had himself another fantastic game for the LSU Football Tigers against Vanderbilt and he cannot be denied as a Heisman candidate.
The LSU Football Tigers have emerged as legitimate National Championship contenders early on this season. The Tigers are doing exactly what they need to do and are demolishing the poor teams on their schedule and even have a significant ranked win over Texas on their resume.
There is still a long way to go as LSU has to go through the elephant in the room that is Alabama, but this definitely is a team that can do it. After such a hot start, LSU is in the very, very early pre-emptive College Football Playoffs.
A big reason for the Tigers’ success thus far is not coming from a usual source: it is coming from the quarterback position. LSU has had some good quarterbacks in its history but the position has never been the program’s bread and butter.

Thus far, that is different in 2019 as Joe Burrow has put together the hottest start in the country. In four games, Burrow has completed 80.6 percent of his passes for 1,520 yards, 17 touchdowns and a 92.9 quarterback rating (that is out of a 100 scale).
Jalen Hurts has been the bonafide Heisman favorite thus far this year but Burrow is absolutely giving him a run for his money. Burrow has the numbers to back it up and just needs the national spotlight that he is somehow still missing.
Burrow may not have as high of expectations as Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa or Trevor Lawrence but that should not take away from what he is doing thus far this year.
Burrow is putting up unprecedented numbers for his program and has one of the best four-game starts this millennium. We may see quarterbacks rack up big numbers all the time, but it means so much more when it is for one of the best teams in the nation.
If Burrow has the best numbers and is on one of the four best teams in the country then how can you deny him his trophy? Again, he is not as flashy as these other guys, but the Heisman is not to name the flashiest player, it is to name the best player.
And so far, Burrow has been the best quarterback on a team that is absolutely one of the best in the entire nation.
It is hard to deny Burrow’s case. And while the LSU Football team still has a long way to go, Burrow has to like his chances thus far.
